I am a caffeine-aholic. I know, I know, that may not be the best thing, but it is what keeps me going all day! I have coffee every morning, tea every night and either coffee or tea in the afternoons. It is my afternoon and evening hot beverages that interested me in a single serving coffee maker, like the Tassimo T20 Home Brewing System from Bosch. It is so wasteful to make a whole pot of coffee when I am the only one drinking it, and I admit, it’s just too much work to make myself a tea when I can simply buy one on my way to work at night. The Tassimo solves this problem by making one cup at a time, with less than 60 seconds prep time. The Tassimo T20 is not just a coffee maker though, it makes a huge variety of hot beverages, including coffee, cappuccino, espresso, lattes, tea and hot chocolate!
I received the Tassimo T20 shown above, a Cappuccino Primo kit (8 espresso T DISCs and 8 cappuccino milk T DISCs) and 16 T DISCs of Gevalia Signature Blend coffee. The T DISC technology is remarkable. The bar code on each disc instructs the machine on how to prepare each beverage perfectly.
I couldn’t wait to try out the T DISC technology (and it arrived at 2pm, right when I really wanted a coffee…it was fate), so I put the Tassimo together right away. It was pretty simple…take it out of the box and slide the cup in the front. You can leave the cup off if you are using a tall mug, but I figured I would need it for my mugs so I put it in.
The first thing I had to do was clean the machine. There were very clear instructions, and it was really easy. I filled the water tank at the back and took the the service T DISC from it’s handy storage place at the back of the machine. First, I turned the machine on and then I set the service T DISC in the mini brewing chamber and pressed the start button. The machine then ran it’s first cleaning. I had to do this four times and then I was ready to make coffee! I have very large coffee mugs. They hold 16 ounces, but they still just fit under the spout with the cup on the base.
I’m embarrassed to say that I have never had cappuccino before. I mean, what kind of a caffeine addict am I? I rectified that immediately by making my inaugural run with the Tassimo be for cappuccino. This was really easy too. I turned the machine on, put the milk T DISC in and pressed start. When it was finished, I replaced the milk T DISC with the espresso T DISC, and voila….my first cappuccino! Since my mug is so big, it doesn’t look like it made that much, but it’s a proper coffee serving.
The cappuccino is good. I finished off the box in no time. I wasn’t as fond of the Gevalia coffee. It was a little stronger than I like, but then I realized that I can make a weaker cup by pressing the manual button after it has run the first cycle through. This coffee was much better after doing that. I found a Chai Tea Latte kit at the grocery store, and I am completely hooked on Chai tea lattes now. And the kids just love the hot chocolate. I love that I can make their hot chocolate in no time as soon as they come in from playing.
I haven’t found any tea T DISCS yet, but I found that I can order them online if I can’t find them in a store, so I will be doing that soon. There are so many great T DISCS available online, from brands like Starbucks, Maxwell House, Twinnings and Nabob.
