I love to read. I’ve had my nose in a book for as far back as I can remember, and I’m thrilled to see my kids develop a love for books as well. My oldest son, now nearly 19, has been escaping into stories since kindergarten, and if it wasn’t for him I may not have discovered the magical world of Harry Potter. I definitely wouldn’t have delved into the Twilight series without his recommendation, and I would have been missing out!
My seven and eight year old also really enjoy books, although they like very different types of books. Kellen loves to learn. He will read history books, books about volcanoes, encyclopedias and fact books. He will then spend hours educating the rest of us with everything he learned. Avery prefers to be entertained and enjoys a light story or a fun journal type book like the Dork Diaries.
Griffin is also a little reader, although at just 3, his reading consists more of rambling and making up the story as he goes. He loves books about trucks and animals…and of course any book that he sees in his brothers’ or sister’s hands! We recently read “Give Me Back my Dad” and “The Underpants Zoo” and he really liked both of them.
I want to read the Harry Potter series with my kids this summer, or at least with the middle two kids. I think they are old enough to really enjoy it and see that books have so much more to offer than movies! Kellen is working on the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series (so I guess he likes to be entertained too) and Avery is reading a Barbie chapter book that is pink and pretty and just her style.
