I stayed at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto this weekend. It is a unique hotel because each room is designed by an artist, and the hallways and lobbies double as gallery exhibits. It was definitely an interesting place, that included some gorgeous rooms like the Ambulation shown here. An old lift sat in the middle of the hotel and required someone to operate it, and the slightly worn and creaky wooden staircases added to the ambiance.
My room was definitely unique. It was small and decorated in a way that wasn’t necessarily to my taste, but was consistent all of the way through.
There was so much art on every floor, whether it was painting or sculptures or dress design…there was something for everyone. I enjoyed looking around and appreciating the different styles. I wish I had the artist names for everyone, and hopefully people will contact me and I can add them because they deserve credit for the beautiful work they have done.
I think the Gladstone is a great place to stay if you are really into the art scene and want to have a little fun in the evenings at the karaoke bar or just having a few drinks in the pub. The food is delicious, and the service is a little relaxed but it fits into the overall “artsy” theme. Here is a video that the Gladstone has on their website.
