My husband and son saw the new Disney blockbuster, John Carter, last week and came home raving about it. Kellen loved it and kept saying “You have to see it Mom!”, and my husband said it was as comparable to Avatar, which is one of our favourites. With such high reviews, I knew I had to see it. I didn’t think it would appeal to my nearly 8 year old daughter, but she insisted she wanted to see it, so the two of us headed off to the movies a few nights ago.

For my daughter, the movie started kind of slow. She leaned over and asked me when he was going to get to Mars, because she was waiting for the exciting parts…but for me, the back story was important. Once the excitement started, Avery was all in. John Carter has the perfect mix of humour, action and romance. It did have some violence and got a little scary at parts, but it wasn’t enough to hinder our enjoyment of the story. Avery’s favourite parts were clearly the funny parts, since she left there repeating some of the funny lines and talking about a funny sidekick from the story.  I loved the whole thing, and I’m anxiously awaiting the sequel that is sure to come.

Oh…and he’s not bad to look at either. Just saying.

If you’re looking for a great movie to see this week, check out John Carter!
