Pure is the first book in a new trilogy by Julianna Baggott. When I first received my copy of Pure, I thought that the book was dirty. It felt like it had a layer of grime on it, but nothing was coming off on my hands, and only parts of the cover felt that way. Once I started reading, I started to understand.
The story is based on a post-apocalyptic world where some people live in a “pure” world inside a dome and the rest are left in a grotesque and terrifying world of ash. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I read a review of Pure that said…
“… glorious … full of wonderful weirdness, tenderness, and wild suspense. If Katniss could jump out of her own book and pick a great friend, I think she’d find an excellent candidate in Pressia.”
— Aimee Bender, New York Times bestselling author of The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
…and I couldn’t agree more. I love The Hunger Games trilogy and while the stories are nothing alike, the concept of rising above and taking control of your own destiny, despite the risks, are very similar. I am anxious for the second book, and the movies that are sure to come since the film rights have already been sold.
This is one you won’t want to miss. Take my word for it!
