When I was a kid, we didn’t have a lot of money. We weren’t poor by any means, but there wasn’t a lot of extra money for vacations or unnecessary expenses. We did fun things like day trips to amusement parks and I thought that was a great way to vacation with my family. I had no idea that people owned cottages or vacation homes, until I was a preteen and we were invited to a friend’s cottage for the day. It was amazing! They had a cottage right on the beach and they took us water skiing. It was such a fun experience, and I was a little envious.

Now that I am the parent, I completely understand not being able to own your own vacation home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have the same experience. There are so many cottages that you can rent for your summer vacation, and you can basically customize your vacation. If you want to stay in the Muskokas or Haliburton, there are cottages to choose from. You can also make your choice based on the size of the cottage, the amenities, beach front or not or based on price. I love that your cottage getaway can be customized to fit your own personal needs. I have even see cottage rentals that offer the option of renting their boat if you want to try some water skiing or fishing during your stay.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in a cottage, and we plan to do a cottage rental sometime soon with the kids. It’s a great way to make some family memories and get away from home and work. I know a beach cottage sounds really great to me right about now! Where would you want to spend a week this summer?
