May was a special month because it held Avery’s 8th birthday, Eric’s Adoption Day and also… Disney Junior’s 1st birthday!! I told the kids it was Disney Junior’s First Birthday and they felt we should have a Disney Junior marathon day to celebrate. The kids love to bake, and we all love to eat cake, so I decided to turn it into a real party.
For a few weeks, I recorded some of the kids’ favourite Disney Junior programs. Avery loves Strawberry Shortcake (and I do too because it takes me back to my childhood) so I made sure to find a few episodes that that. Griffin’s new favourite show is Doc McStuffins so I already had some episodes recorded but I found another one; and I recorded a couple of other favourites like the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs.
The day before our party, I gathered up a cake mix (that’s as close to baking as I get) and Griffin and Avery and we baked a cake. The kids did most of it, including cracking their own eggs! We baked it and let it cool overnight and then they helped me ice it and decorate it on the day of our party. I think they did a great job! Kellen chose not to participate in the baking part, but he was definitely excited to eat it!
We then spent our afternoon watching our favourite shows, eating the cake we made (which was delicious) and having some popcorn. It was a great afternoon celebrating Disney Junior’s birthday! It was so much fun that I think we will have to do it again, just for fun.
