While at BlogHer, I had the awesome opportunity to see the upcoming Disney film “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” . I have seen many previews for the movie and I’m a huge fan of Peter Hedges’ work (he is also known for his work on Dan in Real Life and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape), so I knew this was a must see movie!
Before the movie started, we were shown several previews for upcoming movies that I was already familiar with (and looking forward too) like Frankenweenie, Wreck-It Ralph and Monsters University; and a few previews for some Disney films that I hadn’t heard about, like Oz: The Great and Powerful, which looks like an amazing movie, and the new Tinkerbell movie called Secret of the Wings. My daughter is going to be really excited about this one!
We were also the first audience to see the new short “Paperman”. This was a clever animated short that combined computer animation and hand-drawn techniques to create a story about a couple having a brief encounter at the train in mid-century New York. The man believes he has lost his chance at love when he sees her again and tries desperately to get her attention from a distance. It was a great story with a happy ending.
“The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who are faced with fertility challenges. Together they imagine what their child would be like if they had one, and when Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, they are given their greatest gift…a child of their own. Timothy is no ordinary child though. He is the child of their dreams, and he has some very unique qualities about him! Timothy touches the hearts of the entire community, leaving lessons behind for everyone who is blessed to spend time with him.
I don’t want to give away what happens in the movie, so I will just say that I was very touched. I think that all mothers can empathize with a woman’s desire to have a child, so the story tugs at the heart strings and definitely was one that required lots of kleenex at your side!
Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton were amazing in this movie, but the real star of the show was CJ Adams. He is captivating, and his performance was so sincere that you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. I believe this will be his breakout film!
The Odd Life of Timothy Green hits theaters on August 15th, and you don’t want to miss it. Just don’t forget the tissues!
