October is a big month in our family. My wedding anniversary is on Oct. 5th (ten years this year!), my inlaws’ Anniversary is Oct.8th, and my parents were married on October 10th. It’s also my brother-in-law’s (Oct. 9th) and my (Oct 26th) birthday month, and of course…Thanksgiving and Halloween. It’s a month of celebrating, which means it’s a month of eating delicious food!

I love Thanksgiving, and while I appreciate the idea of reflection and being thankful and absolutely participate in that part of the holiday, I mostly love the food. The smell of a turkey roasting in the oven makes my mouth water, and there’s nothing like homemade stuffing to top it off. Candied yams are a huge hit in my house, and it’s the hint of cinnamon that I add to them that makes them so special (the marshmallows on top don’t hurt either). My favourite Thanksgiving dish is pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I can’t make it. Every time I try it is a disappointment, so I purchase a premade pumpkin pie every year and it is worth every penny. I have it again on my birthday instead of birthday cake, because it is that good!

I have shared some of my Thanksgiving recipes before, but since I mentioned it above I will share my Candied Yams recipe again. It’s even a hit with my husband who doesn’t like sweet potatoes normally.
