With cold and flu season upon us, I am trying to make sure we stay healthy! Like I have said before, I teach my children proper hand washing techniques and I hope that they use them when they go off to school…but the reality is that they are around hundreds of other children every day and they are going to bring home germs and viruses. It is always Mom’s job to take care of the family, especially when someone is sick, so I need to do my best to stay healthy. It’s no fun taking care of sick kids when you are sick yourself!
To try and keep myself healthy, I take Swiss Natural Echinacea every day.
Echinacea is a traditional herbal medicine used to treat sore throats due to colds. The medicinal properties of this popular herb were discovered by Native American Indians many years ago. The two most potent species of this plant include echinacea angustifolia and echinacea purpurea.

Taking echinacea, along with a daily multi-vitamin, has helped me feel like I am taking an active role in maintaining good health. I also try to eat right and wash my hands regularly…and I try to avoid any unnecessary trips to the doctor’s office or any other places that seem to harbor a lot of germs (or at least there are a lot of people with viruses there). We had our flu shots like we do every year too, but taking echinacea is new for me this year. I have not had a cold or flu since I started taking it, despite one of my children being sick more than once, so I’m hoping it is working!
