Being the only girl in a house with 3 boys, Avery often gets the short end of the stick when it comes to television viewing. She spends countless hours watching Superheroes, aliens and pirates with her brothers, and she is pretty patient about it…more than her brothers are when we put on a princess movie anyway. They are better with shows like Good Luck Charlie, which she absolutely loves, but sometimes it’s nice to find an animated program that is just for her. So, I’m always happy when I see a new show that is geared towards little girls. Disney must have heard my cries, because Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess will premiere exclusively on Disney Junior on Saturday, November 24 at 7pm ET! This is a magical prelude to the Sofia the First series, set to air on Disney Junior in 2013. Visit DisneyJunior.ca/SofiaTheFirst to find some fun viewing party treats for you and your children – from printable activities, to party treat ideas!
Sofia’s royal adventure begins as she prepares to move into the castle with her mom, starting a new family with her step-father, King Roland II, and step-siblings, Amber and James. Helping Sofia in her journey are the three headmistresses of Royal Prep Academy – Fauna, Flora and Merryweather (the beloved fairies from Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty) – and royal steward, Baileywick. She is also accompanied by a group of woodland creatures led by wise-talking rabbit, Clover. Sofia soon discovers that looking like a princess isn’t all that difficult, but displaying honesty, loyalty, courage, compassion and grace is what makes one truly royal.
Created for kids age 2-7 and their families, the stories of Sofia the First communicate positive messages and life lessons that are applicable to young children. While she lives in a captivating world of castles, wizards and flying horses, Sofia remains a relatable peer-to-peer princess who is experiencing many of the same social situations as young viewers at home including learning how to fit in, making new friends and mastering new skills.
Avery is a little beyond the age group that Sofia the First is geared towards, but I know her love for all things Disney Princess will outweigh that! We actually had the chance to enjoy the Sofia the First story book, and Avery not only loved the story…but I loved that she read it to us rather than having it read to her.
You could also have a chance to enjoy this story with your children, because Disney Junior has launched the Sofia The First Book Contest! Watch the premiere carefully so you will know the answer to a certain question for your chance to win one of 150 Sofia The First Book Prize Packs!
