62980094758529850_dQSAKO7i_cI’m not one to back away from a challenge. That’s not to say I haven’t had my share of failures. I might even go so far as to say that the failures outnumber the wins, but the wins are far more memorable! I’m hoping my newest challenge will be a memorable one and I’m taking steps to make sure it is.

So what is the newest challenge? It’s a 2 mile run at Disney World. All of the Disney Social Media Moms have been invited to take part in a Disney Fun Run put on by runDisney. It’s a two mile fun run and we will be joined by the winner of The Biggest Loser Season 5, Ali Vincent. I think she’s awesome, and I couldn’t pass up the chance to meet her. The catch is, I have to be able to maintain a 13 minute mile. Right now, that’s a pipe dream.

So today I dragged my out of shape self out the door with my C25K (Couch to 5 K) app ready and did Day One of the program. It started with a five minute walk. Easy Peasy. Then the app chimed and told me it was time to run. I ran for the full minute with no problem. I was actually a little surprised when the phone chimed and it was time to walk again. “I got this” I thought to myself, and considered how I will likely have to skip a couple of days of the program since this first day is clearly too easy for me.


That was a fast 90 seconds. Time to run again. It wasn’t quite as easy this time. In fact, it got increasingly harder with each chime and I was soon doing the math and thinking my time must be nearly up when the app announced a very chipper “You’re halfway through!”

I was not amused.

For the remainder of the time, the walk chimes were greeted with celestial thanks and the run chimes were followed by expletives…but I did it. When I was running and I wanted to quit, I fought through it and kept going until that little chime said I could walk. When it finally said I could start my cool down I was sweating, panting and ready to drop…and so very happy because I didn’t have to run anymore. I did the 5 minute cool down, plus an additional ten minute walk because it was necessary to get home, and I collapsed on the couch with a smile. I finished day one. I am definitely not skipping any days, and may even have to repeat a couple, but today…I did it.

I’m calling that a win.
