runningLast week I started the Couch to 5 K program to get ready for runDisney at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. I need to lose weight as well, so I also made some pretty drastic changes in how I eat. For breakfast and lunch, I am sticking to fruit and vegetable smoothies. I don’t let myself feel hungry and I’m tracking my calories and activity with myfitnesspal.com so that I ensure I’m taking in 1200 calories. At supper time, I am having protein and vegetables, and sometimes a sweet potato.

I am still doing the C25K and I am also doing Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred (Level 1) on the off days. My body is screaming at me! My shins are killing me. My knees hurt. My hip is aching. How sad is it that I’m 40 years old and I feel about twenty years older right now? I’m going to keep at it though, because I know that the only way to get past feeling this way is to get in better shape.

On a positive note, I lost four pounds this week. I also have so much more energy than usual. A couple of weeks ago I was really struggling with fatigue, and now I’m going strong all day long. Another awesome side effect of eating right and exercising is the absence of heartburn. I have had acid reflux for years and really suffered with heartburn in the last few months. I have even thrown up through the night because the heartburn was so bad. I haven’t needed an antacid in five days. I was lucky to go five hours before.

Am I ready for runDisney now? Not yet. I have to be able to run a mile in 13 minutes, and I’m averaging 14.5 minutes. Luckily, I still have three weeks to train. Wish me luck!
