Promote Healthy Lifestyles with the Kraft Celebration Tour #KCT

When I was little we used to live near a little park that had a swimming pool. The deep end was just four feet deep and it was perfect for kids. I loved that pool. I have great memories of swimming there and then playing in the park afterwards. We moved away when I was nine but I always remembered the park fondly, and it was one of the first places I brought my son when we moved back to this town 18 years ago.

Some of my best memories with my oldest son are of time we spent together at the playground. I taught him his letters by writing them in the sand with a stick. He taught me to give him a little independence as he climbed his way to the top of a slide. He has a summer birthday and we took full advantage of that by holding his parties at the playground. It was definitely our happy place!

We still live in the same town and still visit that park on occasion, but my three younger children have a different park to call their own. Not far from our house there is an incredible new playground that any child would love. There are slides of all sizes and varieties; infant swings, big swings, swings for kids with special needs; a climbing wall; a “car” to play in; a “train” to climb inside of; and it’s all situated on a safe rubber surface in a beautiful park setting right next to our school.

The area has two soccer fields, a baseball diamond and if you wander over a bit you will find the school basketball courts. It is a haven for active children and their families!

The really unique thing about this playground is what it offers parents. Fitness equipment has been installed right next to the playground so that parents can get some exercise while watching the children play. I haven’t seen a lot of parents using this equipment yet, but I love that it is available and I think it’s great for our kids to see that there are a lot of different ways to be active.

Does your community have a place like this? If not, maybe you can! Nominate your community to win $25,000 to create something new or make something better and a broadcast with TSN!

Canada becomes the backdrop for the country’s biggest summertime celebration as the award-winning Kraft Celebration Tour gets set to hit the road for the fifth consecutive year.  Beginning today, Canadians can nominate their city or town for the chance to win $25,000 toward a community project that improves an existing space or helps create a brand new one.  Each winning community will also host one of 10 live broadcasts of Canada’s most-watched sports news program, TSN, as part of this summer’s cross-country tour from August 16-25.

The Kraft Celebration Tour recognizes the passion and community spirit that brings people together and promotes healthy active lifestyles from coast to coast. Since 2009, the Kraft Celebration Tour has helped hundreds of thousands of Canadians in 40 deserving communities with a total of $1 million toward projects such as:
• Building a skateboard park
• Upgrading a sports field
• Improving a boxing facility
• Renovating a community youth centre

Canadians can nominate their community online at kraftcelebrationtour.ca and tourneedecelebrationkraft.ca until June 7. And be sure to check out the Kraft Facebook page too!

Isn’t it funny how lasting some of those memories can be? I had a park that was the same for me, but thinking back now, it was really quite lame. Ah well, fun can be had with so little if you use imagination.

I’m glad your kids have their special place too. :)

Some of the best times I’ve had with my kids are when we’re playing outside. I just love getting them outside to run around and play.

It is so important to keep kids active! Although our city (Las Vegas) isn’t considered family friendly, we do have a ton of great parks with awesome features.

This is a great initiative. I loved going to the playground with my kids when they were younger and wanted me to play with them, now they prefer me just to watch *sad face*
