My husband is still loving his HP Envy x2, so I was pretty excited when I had the chance to try an HP Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook.
This 14″ LED touch screen laptop features the following:
- Windows 8
- HD webcam
- 8 GB memory
- Beats Audio
The computer is really lightweight and very thin. You can see an image of it below with my Samsung Galaxy phone leaning against it. The display is bright and sharp, and the touch screen works really well. Windows 8 is still taking some getting used to for me, but this computer certainly makes the learning fun!
Watch this brief video that shows how the HP Envy Touchsmart ultrabook works.
Since a computer is vital for my business, I take them very seriously. They need to be powerful, functional and portable. This computer fits the bill. It has 8 gigs of memory which is perfect considering the amount of photos and video I upload. The picture quality is exceptional and the touchscreen option means I can switch between using a mouse, the keyboard, the touchpad or the screen to do my work. This alone is an incredibly important feature. My previous computer had a broken touchpad and no touchscreen, so when my mouse battery died I would be stuck until I bought a new one.
The battery on the computer seems to last about five hours and I’ve had no issues with the wifi functionality. There is no disk drive so I had to figure out how to get some of my older software onto the computer, but it turned out to be easier than I thought since most things can be downloaded from the internet now. There are three USB ports, an HDMI port and a card slot for my memory card.
There are several programs and apps already loaded on the HP Envy Touchsmart Ultrabook. It comes with Norton and the following software:
- HP MyRoom
- CyberLink YouCam DE
- HP Games powered by WildTangent
- HP Support Assistant
- Beats Audio™
- HP Recovery Manager
- HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection (HP 3D DriveGuard)
- CyberLink PowerDirector
- CyberLink PhotoDirector
- HP+ Best Offers
- Getting started with Windows 8
- HP Connected Photo powered by Snapfish
- HP Connected Music powered by Meridian
I was able to find and install most of the Windows 8 programs that I need, as well as some extra programs that I hadn’t tried before. My children really enjoy the touch screen and that they can watch their favourite movies and programs using Netflix and the Envy.
Overall I’m pleased with the performance and I believe this computer will work for me as my business computer for a long time.
