This has been the year of changes and repairs in my house. We repainted a lot of the house, built a bathroom and we are making lists of what is going to happen next. I’m pretty good at choosing colours and flooring, but when it comes to decorating I get a big FAIL. I’m embarrassed to admit that I have almost nothing hanging on my walls and our focal point is currently the television (which I think is fine with my husband and kids, but I would like that to change).

It’s not that I’ve never tried. I’ve bought nice throw rugs and gorgeous picture frames. I’ve purchased the picture molding hooks and read online how to arrange my photos on the wall, and I have some nice Willow Tree sculptures and vases that would look great on display. Unfortunately, my dog peed on the carpets, the hooks were misplaced before they were used and no matter how much I research, I can’t figure out how to make my few pictures look good on our very large wall. What I need is a home decorating for dummies book.

I just looked it up and it actually exists! I’ll be adding that to my shopping list…

In the meantime I am going to focus on decluttering. With six people in one house, we gather a lot of stuff. I feel like their coats and clothes alone can take over my house in a matter of days. Once that is done, maybe I will feel more focused to decorate.

What is your home decorating challenge?
