I first learned about runDisney when I was invited to participate in a fun run for the Disney Social Media Moms. It sounded like a great experience to me, so I put aside my insecurities, pulled on some running shoes and started running. I completed the fun run with relative ease (at least when compared to the first day I started training for it), and I was hooked on runDisney.

finisher family

Last week I completed my first 5k race in the Tower of Terror runDisney event. My husband also ran the 5k, and since it was done on our 11th Anniversary, it made it a little more special. Like anything that is touched by Disney magic, runDisney is more than just running a race … it involves the entire Disney experience. Everywhere you look you see people dressed as their favourite Disney characters or just fancied up in a tutu and fairy wings. Participants are excited to get out on the course and encounter the Disney characters who are waiting to pose for a quick photo, and of course everyone who finishes the run goes home with a medal and some great memories.

Continuing with the magic of Disney, runDisney involves the whole family. Children who are not up to running the 5k can take part in the kids races. My five year old son ran in the 200 metre dash while the other two kids ran in the one mile races. They all finished with a high five from Pluto, a medal and a huge sense of accomplishment. Parents are welcome to run with the kids, and we opted to do this. Of course, that meant that I ran a 5k, a 200m dash and a 1 mile race all in a span of 2 hours but it was worth it to see their happy faces when they were given their medals.

I love that Disney is helping us to be a healthier family and bringing us closer together with the activities. I can’t wait to sign up for our next runDisney event!
