Yesterday I decided I would make a small Christmas dinner for my family, and I wanted to do it today. We already have plans with each side of the family and I like to cook holiday meals, so the Sunday before Christmas seemed like the perfect time to cook a turkey for my immediate family. My only problem was that I didn’t have a turkey yet. My plan was to go and purchase a fresh Butterball turkey at the grocery store, but everyone else must have had the same plan because there were no fresh Butterball turkeys left. I had almost resigned myself to the fact that I couldn’t make a turkey on such short notice when I saw the label on the Stuffed Whole Butterball turkey that said “Cook from Frozen”. I was skeptical but another customer told me they were fantastic and the butcher came over and said that I should give it a try (I live in a very small town and everyone has an opinion, lol), so I picked one out.
This was my first time cooking a whole turkey from frozen and I didn’t want to make a mistake, so I followed the instructions completely. The turkey was about 14 lbs so it needed to cook for 6.5 hours. I had to cover the stuffed ends with foil for the first 5 hours, and then cover the entire turkey for the last hour and a half. I checked the temperature of the bird at the end of 6.5 hours and I had to give it another fifteen minutes to roast, but then it was done and I could let it sit for 15 minutes before carving.
First off I want to say that I was impressed with the amount of stuffing that was inside the turkey. I made some stuffing because it is a popular dish in my house and I didn’t think there would be enough, but I didn’t need to do that. The stuffing from the bird was enough for the six of us, with a bit leftover. The turkey itself was juicy and delicious, and so incredibly easy to prepare. I will be purchasing this type of turkey again … maybe all of the time!
Once again Butterball has exceeded my expectations and provided an entree that is delicious and easy to prepare. You can see all of the delicious Butterball products on any of the sites listed below.
