With a rise in the number of people requiring or choosing gluten free diets, it is no wonder that more and more food brands are developing gluten free products. It was once difficult to find any tasty gluten free snacks, and now there is an excellent selection in most grocery stores.

Eating healthy and choosing gluten free options no longer means that you can’t enjoy delicious snacks. Breton has released a line of crackers that are certified gluten-free by the Canadian Celiac Association. Beans are the number one ingredient in each of these Breton crackers, yet they taste similar to other Breton crackers, so my picky children won’t be put off by the beans.

The new flavours of Breton Bean crackers are Breton White Bean with Salt & Pepper and Breton Black Bean with Onion & Garlic. They each have 3g of fibre and 2g of protein per serving. The new Breton Popped! Bean cracker chips have 2g of fibre and 2g of protein per serving and the new flavours are Breton Popped! Beans Sea Salt & Pepper and Breton Popped! Beans Sweet Chili Cheddar. The Breton Popped! Beans cracker chips are made with a blend of chickpea and red bean.

I enjoyed the crackers with hummus and even with peanut butter, but I found an even better use for the Breton Popped! cracker chips. They are perfect for entertaining!


The sweet chili cheddar flavour goes really well with a savoury dip, so I threw together a gluten free queso dip to serve with them.

Queso Dip


  • ¼ cup Velvetta or gluten free cheddar cheese spread
  • ¼ cup cream cheese
  • ¼ cup salsa


  1. Put the cheddar cheese spread and cream cheese in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. Heat on high for 1 minute.
  3. Mix the cheeses together completely.
  4. Add the salsa and mix thoroughly.

This recipe takes just a few minutes to put together, yet it tastes like you planned it for days. The queso dip tastes so great with the Breton Popped! cracker chips, and your guests won’t even realize that they are eating a gluten free snack! Make sure to tell them afterwards, because many people still believe that eating gluten free means compromising taste. You can help dispel that myth with just one bite!
