I’ll pass on the poutine

•

I haven’t tried poutine. One look at the cheese and gravy covered fries put my gag reflex on high alert, and the smell takes me to Defcon 5. I don’t need to try it to know I don’t like it. I just know. This causes my husband a great deal of stress. He loves poutine and he’s sure that I’m missing out on one of Canada’s greatest delicacies. He thinks I have to try it. He’s even gone so far as to suggest that it’s unpatriotic of me to refuse.

poutine

Let’s clear this up right now. I hate hockey, unless one of my children is playing. If I never saw another snowflake, it would be too soon. I prefer my home brewed coffee to Tim Horton’s, and I’ll pass on the poutine.

I’ll wait while you prepare the deportation papers.

Seriously though, I love Canada. I wave my flag proudly and tear up while listening to our National Anthem. I finish sentences with “eh” and refer to a case of beer as a “two-four”. I own red and white toques. I make my kids wear long underwear under their Halloween costumes, and sometimes I apologize to inanimate objects. I’m Canadian through and through, and I don’t have to enjoy poutine to prove it.

So, if that makes me unpatriotic, you can go ahead and throw me out of the country. Just make sure I’m sent somewhere south, preferably with giant mice and Dole Whips (now that’s something that you have to try!). I’ll spend my afternoons in the Canadian Pavilion and never think about poutine again.

LOL this post really had me giggling! I like poutine but have had it only a few times in my almost 52 years. I could live without it and not notice……..

I’ve never had a Dole Whip, but I know I’d love it!

I think poutine is something you either like or you don’t. I am on the like it side but only have it as a treat a couple times a year.

I agree that poutine does not look at all appetizing (or healthy). I do intend to try a little bit someday, but I’m certainly in no hurry.

I do like poutine, but avoid it because of the fat content. I would love to try the Dole Whips.

lol. too each is own. some hate it, some like it (like me) and some are obsessed with it (like my hubby) whenever we get take out I stick with my regular fries but hubby will make sure to upgrade his fries to Poutine (except at Harvey’s apparently the gravy is disgusting lol)

I have never tasted Poutine. After the picture you posted, I doubt that that will change. It must be an acquired taste. We have a dish in the Maritime provinces called ‘Fries with the Works.’ I think it consists of hamburger, peas, french fries covered with gravy. People who have eaten it say it is delicious- Probably it should be called: ‘ Heart Attack on a Plate.’ I have never seen it nor tasted it.
However, we should allow others to eat their favorites no matter. I do not care for tofu either. Taste is a mainly acquired thing, I guess.

I understand completely. I moved to Ontario when I was 17 and the first time I ordered fries someone asked me if I wanted gravy on that. What? Gravy on fries? Don’t be silly. So of course I never wanted to try poutine. Who wants that soggy, goopy mess? Not me.! At least not until I actually tried it at the age of 68. OMG, I’ve been missing out on this treat all these years!!! Now I have to convince myself not to order it more than once or twice a summer. I don’t want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe!

You gotta at least try one bite! Then confirm that poutine is not for you OR it might be the new love of your life 🙂

My sister feels exactly the same way you do about poutine! I do like poutine BUT it has to be a good poutine. Some poutines I have tried have crappy gravy and I won’t eat them. I’m picky about my poutine. 🙂

Tracy also loves poutine. I have eaten it and like it ok but it is too high in fat for my liking. Your picture is really soupy and when I had poutine it was not so drowning in gravy as that one is. Poutine is something that should not be enjoyed often or one would need new clothes or a gym membership
