When you visit a place that you have heard a lot about, but have never been yourself, you walk in with preconceived notions. That was the case for me when I visited Blue Mountain Resorts. In my mind it was a rustic place at the base of a mountain where we would experience nature all around us and take part in outdoor activities. The reality was a little different.

Our first view was of the Blue Mountain Village. This is a quaint walking village full of high end shops and restaurants. You can pamper yourself with a visit to the spa or enjoy a game of giant chess or checkers. Entertainment takes place in the courtyard where the kids can play in the fountain nearby. Families can take part in a friendly game of mini-golf or let the kids play in the playground.

The village is surrounded by resorts that overlook the village. Each resort has it’s own style and they all offer many amenities like swimming pools and fitness rooms. The resort restaurants share delicious menus for adults and children alike.

If swimming is your thing, you don’t have to be staying at one of the resorts. The Plunge is the aquatic centre at Blue Mountain that boasts an indoor/outdoor pool, hot tubs, rope swing and tons of water fun for all ages.

My notion of a getaway to nature was not wrong, it was just imagined differently. Guests can rent kayaks, paddle boards and peddle boats on the outskirts of the village. The adventurous type can try ziplining and ropes courses, and those wanting to enjoy the views can hike up one of the trails on the mountains.

It is truly the ideal marriage between city and country. It is a destination that will work for everyone, even families who are divided on their interests!
