My 8 year old son and my 3 year old son share a room. I wish we had a house big enough for each child to have his or her own room, but that is not in the cards right now. They have an average sized bedroom that right now is equipped with a loft bed and a toddler bed. Actually, the toddler bed is the crib/bed that Avery, Kellen and Griffin all used. It is a convertible crib.
I love Convertible Cribs. When Eric was a baby, we went from the bassinette, to the crib, to a separate toddler bed and eventually to his big bed. With the three younger kids, I could just take the side off and put another one up, and voila…a toddler bed. There was little to no fuss or adjustment because it was the bed they were all used to. We could even use the same crib bedding that we had used before because it is the same mattress! I love the convenience, and the toddler size beds are definitely a space saver, but we are thinking about making a change now that Griffin is older.
He never really had a Baby Nursery, since he shared the room with his older brother, but he did have the crib, change table and baby dresser in his corner of the room. The change table and baby dresser left awhile ago, and now we think it is time for the crib/toddler bed to go too. Since his convertible crib isn’t one that also converts into a full size bed (wouldn’t that be nice?), we have to move to a new bed. We have a wooden bunk bed in the garage ready to move in. I need to come up with some space saving ideas, since we will be losing the space under the loft bed. A toy clean out may be in order!
Are your kids sharing a room? How do you manage the space?
