This past long weekend was a very busy one, but it was a good busy because we were spending time with family. After a fun weekend seeing the Smurfs at the drive-in and hanging out at home, we spent Monday at my Father in law’s house for a swim and a barbecue. It has been hot here, like it has been a lot of places, so it was great to spend some time in the pool!
After our swim, we gathered on the patio for some hot dogs and hamburgers wrapped in Wonder+ SimplyFree buns! SimplyFree is the first Canadian National Brand of bakery products FREE OF artificial preservatives, flavours and colours; it is also free of high fructose corn syrup and made with unbleached wheat flour, so I feel good about feeding it to my kids.
Our BBQ consisted of some delicious salads and sides as well, and we even taste tested some sandwiches that my husband and I were working on for the Ultimate Sandwich Contest. There was no shortage of food! I love barbecues and I’m always happy to find new recipes for the grill. If you also like to experiment, you can find some great BBQ recipes on the Canadian Living website, as well as some tips for better BBQing!
Our BBQ was followed by some bocce ball, ladderball and Grandpa put together a homemade water slide for the kids to enjoy too! They live on a hill that is perfect for tobaggoning in the winter, and also for making waterslides apparently! That was a great treat for the kids. And then of course, the kids had to go in the pool again, which was how we finished up our long weekend.
