Leyla Milani is the brains and beauty behind Milani clip in Hair Extensions. As a former Deal or No Deal model (you may remember her as Lucky #13), Leyla was always getting compliments on her famous locks – and a ton of fan mail from around the world asking how to get her look. Most fans were surprised to find out she had a little help, courtesy of her clip in hair extensions.
Here’s the story: After more than 300 shows on Deal or No Deal and countless other film and TV roles, Leyla started to notice that her hair was breaking down and starting to lose its luster. All of the hot tools, teasing and styling had really taken its toll on her once healthy hair. Having seen the damage and distress glue-in and sew-in salon hair extensions can cause (not to mention the cost – often $2,000 or more), Leyla decided clip in hair extensions were the way to go. But she couldn’t find any that were high quality enough to look and feel natural. So, she created her own. That’s how Milani Hair extensions were born, and since then they’ve become a huge hit in Hollywood. Now, you can own them yourself no matter where you live – with no A-list connections required.
Milani Hair is made out of 100% super premium (and organic!) Remy human hair samples. HOW TO APPLY MILANI HAIR EXTENSIONS
Supplies Needed: Milani Hair Extensions, tail comb, hair clips
Step 1: Separate Your Hair
Create a horizontal part (with a tail comb) about an inch above the lowest part of the hairline of the neck and secure loose hair with a clip. Gently tease the hair to create a base for the hair weft to securely attach to.
Step 2: Applying the First 6″ Weft.
Clip in the first 6″ weft along the teased hairline starting with the center clip (make sure all the clips are open). Extend the weft on either side and secure the remaining clips on both sides.
Step 3: Applying the Second 6″ Weft
Release your own hair from the duck clip and create another horizontal part (using the tail comb again) slightly above the first weft and secure your own hair with the clip. Just like in step 1, gently tease your hair to create a secure base for the extension weft to clip into. Now, clip in the second 6″ weft along the new part starting with the center clip. Extend the weft on either side and secure the remaining clips on both sides.
Step 4: Applying the 8″ Weft
Release your own hair from the duck clip and create another horizontal part slightly higher above the second weft and secure your hair with the clip. Place the 8″ weft along the new part starting with the center clip. Extend the weft on either side and secure the remaining clips on both sides.
Step 5: Applying the 4″ Wefts
The 4″ wefts are meant to be placed on the sides of your head to frame the face. Part your hair horizontally and secure the 4″ piece into desired area on each side of your head. Follow the same directions as with other pieces when clipping in these pieces.
Step 6: Applying the 2″ Wefts
Just like the 4″ pieces, the 2″ wefts are meant to be placed on the sides of your head to frame the face. Part hair horizontally and secure these 2 pieces into desired area on each side of your head.
Now, style as usual. Remember, Milani Hair is 100% natural human hair–just like your own. So you can play with it and style it using your favorite hot tools and styling
I received the 7 piece Milani extensions, and I was instructed that it is a good idea to get a hairdresser to cut and colour them appropriately. I really liked the colour of them (dark chocolate), so I decided to try and colour my hair to match. As you will see, I didn’t get it exactly right, so next time I think I will colour my hair and the extensions with the same colour. I also did not get the extensions cut, because I wanted to see how they looked at the length they came in (20″).
The hair itself is soft and very pretty. It was completely straight, so I decided to give my extensions a little curl and wrapped them in velcro rollers for a couple of days before using them. I think it gave them just the right amount of curl to match my hair. I also straightened my hair a bit before applying the extensions.
I followed the instructions exactly, and other than the colour not being a perfect match, I think it turned out nice. You can see in the picture above that the clips are not visible at all, and they weren’t uncomfortable. I’m not sure I would use all seven pieces next time, because it did give me a lot of fullness. I also think I like it better with the sides pinned back, but I left them down so you can see how it looked…
I think I may have put the smallest extensions a little too far back on the sides of my head because they are not shaping my face the way Milani said that they should. This would probably help with the different lengths blending in better too.
I can’t see myself wearing these on a regular basis, because it just isn’t practical as a Mom with four kids, but they would be nice when going out for an evening.
