What is old to you?

•

I try to be positive most of the time, and I don’t generally use my blog as a place to vent my frustrations, but today I am venting because tomorrow… I turn 40.

I’ve never been someone to dwell on the numbers or stress about my age. I know that age is a frame of mind and that it doesn’t mean anything, and I have never had a problem having a birthday. In fact, I always thought it was a little silly to be upset about getting older, so I hate that I am letting it bother me. That is not who I want to be. But all of the logic in the world isn’t changing how I feel. I don’t want to be 40.

I’m not sure what it is about 40 that is bothering me. Maybe it’s that I thought people were established in their lives at 40 and that’s not the case for me. Or maybe it’s the realization that I will never have the body I had at 20 and no matter how much I thought it wouldn’t happen, I’m getting wrinkles and I need bifocals. I’m past the excitement of pregnancy and new babies, and I don’t get admiring looks from anyone other than my husband. There is far more gray in my hair than brown anymore, and it all just makes me kind of sad.

So tomorrow I’m going to mope and be sad that I’m getting older, but when the kids get home from school I’m going to put on my big girl panties and suck it up….because it’s part of life and they don’t need to think that it’s bad to get older.

But just between us … 40 sucks.

“…established in their lives at 40” – what does that mean? When does a person say “ah ha, I’m established bitches!!”

Doesn’t happen. You’re at a fabulous place in life right now! Happy early birthday!

Thanks Tenille. I think “established” is when you are happy with where you are…but I always want more, so that will probably not happen, lol….or maybe tomorrow I’ll get up and say “I’m established bitches!” LOL

Well from what I can see you are an amazing person, a successful blogger and have a family who love you. I’d call that a success. 40 is just a number and you are so much more then that. I am so happy to call you my friend. Happy Birthday beautiful!

Awww — I wish I had words of wisdom … but, to be honest, I am dealing with some of the same issues the closer and closer I get to 40.

BUT… I think you can STILL Have a fabulous birthday. SO Happy Birthday tomorrow!

You know, 40 was a sort of wake up call for me. I didn’t like the number, but being 41 isn’t so bad. I’m not that old, I’m walking, talking and thinking, I love my new blogging career, I love the people in my life and I feel a sort of content that I didn’t in my 20s or even my 30s.

40 is pretty hip right now–super sexy, ultra cool, ‘seasoned,’ and smart!

40 rocks 🙂 Although I have to say that the number did kind of throw me. And sometimes I shock myself by remembering I’m 42. Mostly I feel about 30, but with more experience

    Happiest of Birthdays!!

I can’t answer this. LOL. I am deathly afraid of getting old, to the point that I have anxiety attacks near my birthday when I know I’m about to turn 1 year older.

40 is the new 20! Seriously, I am loving my 40s, and I’m closer to 50 than I am 40. But I did have a difficult time with turning 40 itself, though. So I know how you feel! It gets better, I promise!

No 40 is terrible and now I turned the dreadful 50 and it has been down hill from here, the old age skin, memories seem distant oh wait they are!! Your luck if your old arse makes it out of bed and if it does it’s not without moaning and groaning and a few meds because by now things in your well oiled machine are wearing out and getting rusty, friends are getting sick and it’s time to downsize, dreams? the ones you had are either fulfilled or over!! So whoever says life starts at 50 is a liar and oh yeah if your a woman lets not forget menopause, well that’s just the bomb, your hot, your cold and everything you loved about your husband irritates you, boy 50 something is so great I can’t wait til 60!!

Happy Birthday! I can relate – I was scared to turn 40 too, but I’ve been there and done that now and it’s not so bad. I just spend a lot more money on anti-aging creams and serums than clothes now a days. Thank goodness I work from home 😀

You are not old at all and you look awesome for your age! My mom is 75 and I don’t think that is old because she is my mom, so…

Forty is just a number. 😉 I’ve always said that you are only as old as you feel.

I am pretty darn close to that number. I will have to let you know how I feel then, but for now, I am going to continue to think that age is just a number.

I don’t dwell on numbers either. I think a person is old as they feel. 🙂

I think old is when you feel old. I (most days) feel like I am still a teenager LOL

The older I get the older “old” becomes. KWIM? When I was a teenager, 50 was old. Now that I’m 30, it’s 90. 😉 Actually my mom told me once that her 40’s were the best years of her life. If she could live over any decade it would be 40-50. So maybe the best is just ahead for you!

I turned 40 this year….it sucked. Weird how those two little numbers (4 and 0) can just ruin a lifetime of not caring about age. *kicks 40’s azz*

I have no idea what “old” really is, but I feel and and I’m 28. Go figure 😛
