Making Decisions for your Pending Arrival

•

I feel like I’ve done the “new Mom” thing twice in my life. Once when I was young and completely unprepared for what lay ahead, and again over ten years later when things had changed so much I felt like it was the first time all over again. Whenever you have your children, there is a lot of planning to do and a lot of decisions to make. Everything from what/how you feed the baby to the baby’s name has to be decided, and it can be a daunting task! I love hearing how these parents worked out some of those big decisions before their special arrivals.

The names are always such a big challenge. My first child was a month premature and I hadn't decided on a name for him yet. When he was born, I just instantly knew what his name was...and then later realized that one of the Moms I took my prenatal classes with had given birth to twins shortly before I had my son, and she named one of them Eric. I guess I was told that and I must have liked the name! Thankfully I didn't know her outside of prenatal class, lol.

haha that’s funny about how you chose Eric! My partner and I canNOT agree on this topic. Either him or I have had bad experiences with someone with the name that the other person likes!

Naming baby was always fairly easy for us. It was the darn nursery that was difficult LOL!

My husband and I just talked about it in the car one day. We threw around names we liked, family names, figured out how it would sound in both English and Dutch, and stuck it all together 😛

I kinda feel the same way though my span wasn’t as long, more like 5 years but it was different with more knowledge.

We had such a hard time with names! Gus (William Augustus) wasn’t named until he was 4 days old. 🙂

There are so many decisions to be made! Luckily we have chosen all of our names early and my boys ended up coming late. Go figure.

I had my daughter late in life, but still didn’t feel fully prepared for her actual arrival.

My husband is an Eric and my son’s middle name is Eric, so they tend to be pretty awesome 😉

I actually knew all my kids names before they were born, my first I knew even though I didn’t know that he was going to be a he yet LOL. I just knew in my heart I was having a boy and Gabriel Michael was going to be his name.

Names were difficult in our house — my husband and I have VERY different taste.

We have a name for our baby, but don’t plan to share it until he’s born. I just don’t want to hear unsolicited opinions about the name that may change my mind about it. However, my husband was saying the name in front of our girls the other day, and apparently my 4yo caught on and has been calling the baby by his name. I keep telling her she’s wrong and telling her other names, but it’s not working.

Naming our kids was the easy part – in our traditions, we name them after grandparents

I never found out the sex, so my nurseries were very generic. I had them completed before arrival, unfortunately, the boys rarely slept in their own rooms so I basically had lovely laundry folding rooms! Names? I spent almost no time on names. When I was 38 weeks with my first bio child, I met a wonderful Scottish woman at Target, and she helped me pick out a bouncer. Her newborn was named Connall and I immediately fell in love with the name. I knew James would be the middle name for a boy, since my father, named James, had died that same year. When I delivered my baby boy, I was asked what his name was and I yelled CONNALL JAMES! With my other son, I had nothing until I was in labor. I liked the name Cullen and we chose Murphy because it was one of those days where Murphy’s Law seemed to be our life. Again, when the doctor showed us our baby boy, I said CULLEN MURPHY. The very next year Twilight came out and we get teased constantly!
