I have been enjoying my time in the sun this past week. It’s always nice to get away and enjoy some time in a warmer climate, especially in a place like Florida where there are so many things to do. Every time we come here we joke about packing up and moving here for good, so that we can live as close to Disney World as possible, or just to enjoy the sunshine. Realistically, I have no immediate plans to do that. I love Canada and my kids have their friends and a great school, but someday it may be a more viable dream. Someday in the future, I could see myself being a snowbird. Not the kind of snowbird with wings, and not the stunt pilots, but a Canadian to escapes our harsh winters to live in the south for half of every year.
When I think about retirement, I imagine my husband and I really enjoying our time together while still enjoying some time apart. We could spend half the year in Florida where he can golf and I can swim, and we can both spend childless days at Disney. I love bringing my kids to Disney, but I really do look forward to the day that I can come to the parks without a stroller and when we don’t have to worry about constant bathroom breaks! When we choose to have some kids with us, our future grandchildren can visit and fall in love with the area just like we have.
For now I just have to settle for dreaming about that day. It is still a decade or two away, so I have a lot of time to make plans and save for our snowbird years. Maybe I will get lucky and win the lottery so I can make my dreams come true a little faster! Have you ever considered moving away when you retire? Where would you go?
