Recipe: Freezer Bag Beef Stew

March 6, 2014 By Sheri

As part of my family’s goal to eat healthier and not order meals, I am making freezer bag meals. I prepared several meals for my husband and kids to have while I am traveling. My husband loves beef stew, so I put together two bags of freezer bag beef stew (and I am hoping that he saves one of them for us to have together when I get back).

Ingredients

  • 1 lb stewing beef
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup baby carrots
  • 4 medium potatoes cubed
  • 1 pkg Club House Beef Stew Mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup red wine

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, salt and pepper.
  2. Use this flour mixture to coat the beef.
  3. Add the beef and remaining ingredients to a ziploc bag, remove as much air as possible and seal. Freeze for later use.
  4. When ready to use, defrost in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
  5. Deposit contents of bag into the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours.

What a wonderful idea, this would help with the not eating out period. Helps the family budget and is much healthier for you.

I am actually making stew for dinner tonight using the Clubhouse Mix, but I hadn’t thought about making it up in advance to have in the freezer. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve never tried Club House stew mix but I use several of their other mixes and their gravy mixes are great. I’m looking forward to trying this out, thank you.

I had beef stew for supper tonight. My recipe is much the same as yours only I can’t use the Clubhouse mix because of the sodium.

Wow Sheri this is organized and smart. I need to take a day and just cook like crazy and bag meals like you do. My husband is pretty good in the kitchen but time is always the issue. If I go away he is left racing the girls around to martial arts, acting, singing etc.

I love the idea of having meals being prepared ahead of time so that, if life gets hectic or for any other reason, you have something on hand to cook for your family and something that doesn’t take constant watching.
