Adding sweet and sour sauce to a recipe is a great way to add a little zing to your meals and ensure everyone will eat it. It is also popular when served with appetizers like spring rolls or chicken wings. I have a few variations of my sweet and sour sauce and the recipe below is one that I made to serve with meatballs this week.
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 3/4 ketchup
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 cup plum sauce
Add all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Heat on low for 15-20 minutes, or until it thickens.
Serve on the side or over your main course.
I chose a spicy plum sauce for this sauce so it added a little kick to our meatballs. You can leave out the plum sauce too, but I suggest adding a tablespoon of cornstarch if you do. Other options are jellies or marmalade in the same amount as the plum sauce. There are so many ways to make this recipe your own. I hope you give it a try and let me know how it turns out!
