Spring Cleaning the Kitchen #testdrivemoms

•

My husband and I bought our house ten years ago. Do you know what happens to a house that has six people and a dog in it for ten years? It collects stuff. Over time we have accumulated more and more things and I’ve made it my mission to get rid of as much as possible this spring. I have been sending things out in boxes and I feel like I’m reclaiming my home. Doing the spring cleaning is so much easier once the clutter is out of the way.

frigidaire rangeThe kitchen is a place that definitely needs some de-cluttering before we get to the spring cleaning. Every year I go through the cupboards and get rid of dishes we don’t use, plastic containers that take up too much space and food that has sat in the cupboards too long. Then another year rolls around and I wonder how I have so much stuff in the cupboards again! Where does it come from? And why don’t my teaspoons reproduce like my mugs seem to? I could always use more teaspoons. In order to get my kitchen looking it’s best, I do the following:

  • Get rid of duplicate items: You probably don’t need a blender, a food processor and a smoothie maker!
  • Consider when it was used last: If you haven’t used the soft drink maker in six months, it probably doesn’t need to be taking up space on the counter.
  • Assign and Label Spaces: If you label a section of the cupboard for mugs, it’s more likely that family members will put them where they belong and give you more organized space.
  • Junk the junk drawer! What is in there anyway? Chances are, it’s not anything you really need. If you want the junk drawer, use a divider to give it some organization.
  • Baskets are your friend. Wire baskets can sort the lunch containers from the freezer containers, making it easier to find what you need, when you need it.
  • Use stackables. Put your flour, sugar and other baking mixes into plastic containers that can be labeled and stacked in the cupboards.
  • Hang it up! Use hooks for pots, mugs or serving utensils; magnets for knives; and tower bars for your dish towels.

Once your kitchen is de-cluttered and organized, you can wipe everything down and start your spring off with a clean and smudge-proof kitchen. I love when the whole kitchen looks as bright as my Frigidaire Range.

With their patented Smudge-Proof™ Stainless Steel finish, Frigidaire Gallery® and Frigidaire Professional® stainless-steel appliances have a new anti-smudge technology that resists those little fingerprints and is easier to clean than traditional stainless steel surfaces.

Smudge-Proof™ Stainless Steel is available on all Frigidaire Gallery® and Frigidaire Professional® products – see the collection here: http://www.frigidairekitchen.ca/en/smudge-proof/index.html

Great tips, each one! We recently moved and had no choice but to organize everything before we left! It felt great to get rid of so many things that we didn’t need!

I have a miniscule kitchen so clutter is even more noticeable. I love Tupperware and other brands of containers to organise and save space on dry goods. I store rarely used small appliances on a shelf in our basement to save space too.

Lovely! I have to clean my kitchen and I avoid my oven. It came with the house and I think who ever created our oven should get a big time out! It is horrible! I totally love your oven! Omg a flat top would be a dream! I think the reason for avoiding spring cleaning in the kitchen is because of the oven. Lol

Great tips. This Spring I went through my cupboards and cleaned out any duplicates or items I don’t use and it was amazing how much I donated.

Thank you for your tips for house cleaning the kitchen. I think we all know that clutter is the main culprit and we have to be careful to take out as we put in.
