Our house was a new build when we bought it, so we were lucky enough to choose the interior of the home, including the paint colours. Unfortunately, the builder’s paint wasn’t exactly the quality I would have hoped for and it didn’t take long for the walls to get scuffs and marks on them. Over the years we have been repainting the house using quality paint that can be wiped clean when needed.
Our bathrooms were painted in a high-gloss paint so they weren’t a high priority for re-painting and are some of the only rooms that still have the original paint. The green colour I chose ten years ago has lost its appeal and I decided it was time to make a change. I started by choosing a Serenity Blue and Lavender Ice paint from Benjamin Moore.
Benjamin Moore produces the highest-quality paints and finishes in the industry. The excitement of transforming a room by adding a fresh new coat of paint has been a part of the lives of many new home and condo owners and renters. Whether you are a DIY enthusiast or it’s your first time giving your room a makeover, Benjamin Moore is offering ‘BEN in a Bag’ paint kits as part of their ‘ben & ME’ Fall promotion to help the process of creating that “I-can’t-believe-I-did-it-myself’ space!
I received a ben & ME bag that contained a coupon for 2 gallons of premium paint and 1 quart for trim. It also had a sleeve roller, paintbrush, paint tray, crop cloth, paint can opener and painter’s tape. The bags are finished off with a How-To Guide and a playlist. You can pick up a ben & ME bag of your own at your local Benjamin Moore store or off of the Ben & Me website for the limited time price of $109* from now until October 5th.
The How-To Guide that came in my ben & ME bag contained some valuable tips for any home painter, starting with the recommendation to take before and after photos. Of course I did this! I had to have pictures to share with you, but I’ll hold off on that for a few minutes. Steps 2 and 3 talk about moving items out of the way and doing any wall repairs and cleaning that is necessary. Then we get to step 4, which is the Tape Trick. You have to get your kit to find out how it works, but it’s a sure fire method of making sure you don’t get paint seepage! I tape everything I can before I start painting, so I found this tip particularly useful.
Others tips in the guide share how to avoid paint splatter, what the best rolling method is and how to clean and preserve your brushes. There is a lot of great information in that little How-To Guide and it helped me transform our main floor powder room from drab to fab. I love how bright it is now.
My little powder room only used a half a gallon of paint, so I have enough to do our ensuite as well. The gallon of Lavender Ice will transform the kids’ bathroom, much to my daughter’s delight. Hopefully I can have the job done and share photos with you at the ben & ME Twitter Party.
Join me and @sheblogsmedia at the #DIYWithBen Twitter Party on September 18th from 7pm-8pm EST. Be sure to RSVP and Join us at the party!
