My Grandmother was a baker. She made the most delicious sweet treats and she was best known for her apple pie. The crust was light and flaky and the filling was rich and fruity. I have never had another apple pie like hers and I doubt I ever will. Many years before she passed away, my Grandmother was diagnosed with diabetes. You would think that this would be a big roadblock for someone who loved to bake, but it didn’t slow her down one bit. She tried some different sugar substitutes until she found what she liked, and she continued to bake the most delicious sugar free apple pies. While I didn’t inherit her baking ability, I do try to make sweet treats without sugar when I can.
Here is a recipe for sugar free chocolate that I have made in the past. You can add a little Orange Naturals cinnamon tincture to give it a festive flavour too!
¾ cup cocoa powder
½ cup coconut oil, melted
2 tbsp agave nectar
1 tsp unpasterized honey
Optional items: whole almonds, coconut, sea salt, etc.
Mix everything together until smooth.
Pour mixture on parchment paper on a cookie sheet, or into a mold.
Put in freezer until hardened (approximately half an hour).
