Disclosure: I am a P&Gmom/mamanP&G. As part of my affiliation with this group I receive products and special access to P&G events and opportunities. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Spring means a lot of wonderful things are on the way: flowers, green grass, warm air, kids playing outside and of course… spring cleaning. Okay, maybe spring cleaning isn’t a wonderful thing, but the end result definitely is. Spring means purging for me. Away with the mismatched winter gloves and too small snowpants. Goodbye to the toys that my children have aged out of over the winter, and hello to a fresh clean home.

cleaning

There are many important tools in my spring cleaning arsenal. Bounty is used everywhere. The kids still think it’s fun to clean the windows and dust, so I hand them each a roll of Bounty and send them off to do their best. Swiffer WetJet makes keeping the floors clean a breeze, and it’s another job my kids are happy to pitch in on! Dawn is not only great for cleaning dirty dishes, but it also works well at cleaning the winter dirt off of the patio furniture. I finish off the spring cleaning by putting up some Febreze Air Effects, and the house looks and smells amazing.

Best tip I can offer for spring cleaning is to purge, purge, purge. I have to love something, or it has to be useful and used for me to keep it. Some things are garbage, but most are donated to the hospital thrift store. So a win-win.

My tip would be to have a bag for garbage, recycling and donation in every room and to complete a task before moving on to the next one or you’ll never get organized

My tip is to work from the top down. e.g. I start with the high windows, ledges etc, then the cupboards, then the drawers and then finish with the floors – that way any dust, crumbs, etc that falls will get cleaned up once I get to the bottom (floors) and I won’t have to redo the lower layer(s) later.

Circle Your Way Around: Always begin on the right side of your stove, then move clockwise around the room. The stove is typically the dirtiest part of the kitchen, so ending with it keeps you from spreading dirt and grease. (First, soak drip pans and knobs in warm soapy water. By the time you’ve worked your way around, they’ll be easier to clean.)

My best spring cleaning advice is to clean room by room. I like to start in my kids’ room by getting rid of any toys/clothes they don’t use or wear anymore. Once you’re done purging all unwanted/unused items, find organizing solutions for the remaining things. Once you’ve done that, literally clean from top to bottom. Grab cobwebs from ceilings, wash walls (a Swiffer with a cotton wash cloth and cleaning solution attached works great for walls), clean all surfaces (desks, dressers, shelves, even the rod in the closet where your clothes hang, inside drawers), put all stuffed animals, bedding, anything washable into bags to be washed. Flip mattress. Wash baseboards. Vacuum once everything else is done an then steam clean carpet. If you do this in each room, its a lot easier to keep focused rather than jumping to and from several different spaces.
