Germs are my nemesis. Having grown up with asthma, and then passing that along to two of my children, I have always been wary of respiratory viruses and took steps to avoid the transfer of germs. Just over two years ago, my son was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. After exhausting all other options, he began treatment with biologics that target his immune system. Our desire to keep the germs at bay instantly became a necessity. One of the tools in our germ fighting arsenal is Purell hand sanitizer. The kids each have a small bottle attached to their backpacks and we have larger bottles in our home.

A study has shown that using PURELL Advanced Hand Sanitizer three times a day for 30 days can help reduce the spread of illness-causing germs, and PURELL wants to put that to the test. They are spearheading a movement to encourage families to use PURELL Advanced Hand Sanitizer every day for 30 days to help control the spread of illness-causing germs. My family has agreed to take the PURELL® 30-Day Challenge just like the families in the video below.
How Should I Wash and Sanitize My Hands?
- Handwashing: The entire handwashing process should take at least 20 seconds. A good procedure is to wet hands with water, apply enough soap to create a lather to cover all hand surfaces, rub hands palm to palm and carefully scrub fingers, back and front of hands and each thumb. Rinse hands with water and gently dry hands with a clean paper towel.
- Hand Sanitizing: The entire hand sanitizing process should take approximately 15 seconds. Apply a dime-sized amount of hand sanitizer, enough to cover all surfaces of your hands, rub the sanitizer into the palms of your hands, fingers, back and front of hands and thumbs. Continuing rubbing hands together until hands are dry.
There are prizes to be won by taking the challenge, so I invite you to sign up for the PURELL 30-Day Challenge and combat those germs along with my family. At the end of the challenge I will be sharing my results and I hope you will too!
