As parents, we tend to put the focus on our children. We drive them to play dates and watch them participate in sports and the arts. We make sure they do their homework and pick up their toys, and of course we referee any sibling rivalry that takes place. All of the hustle and bustle of raising a family can lead to poor habits for mom and dad. We grab a coffee and a muffin instead of eating a healthy breakfast. We drive everywhere because it’s faster and it’s the only way to cart the kids’ stuff around. Our own health gets lost in the shuffle.
My husband and I have decided to make ourselves a priority this year. Our children will still get everything they need but they will also see us taking care of ourselves and modeling healthy behavior for them. Our goals this year have included setting time aside for exercising, cooking healthy meals daily, staying hydrated to function at our best and only purchasing healthy snacks for the family. Rather than hiding the fresh fruit in the fridge, it is on the table where it is actually going to be eaten. Yogurt and cheese are readily available for us and the kids when we need a more filling snack, and we keep a variety of nuts on hand too. We are all making the shift to healthy snacking without feeling like we are being deprived.
I enjoy drinking water, but sometimes I just need something different, and my husband doesn’t like to drink water at all. We want an alternative that doesn’t contain sugar or artificial sweeteners and we found it with Nestlé Pure Life Sparkling, a carbonated and flavoured beverage that contains no sugar or calories.

We took the Wellness Week Challenge featuring Nestlé Pure Life Sparkling Water, which asked us to replace one soft drink or caffeinated beverage a day with Nestlé Pure Life Sparkling. I started with the Raspberry-Lime flavour that was available in a can. It suits my “grab-and-go” lifestyle, and it was refreshing. I was surprised by the flavour at first, because I expected the strong sweetness usually found in carbonated drinks, but the light flavour quickly grew on me. I really enjoyed it.
After a couple days I was drinking Nestlé Pure Life Sparkling more than once a day. The lemon flavour is my favourite, with lime being a close second. Once we stopped buying pop and only drank this and water, we found we didn’t miss the pop at all. It was an easy lifestyle change.
I challenge all of you to take the challenge too, and share your water wisdom with the #RethinkYourDrink hashtag. Register today and we can all get healthy together!
