Dreaming of bedroom redecorating

We have been slowly doing some renovations and redecorating in our house. We have painted the kids’ rooms, the upstairs hallway and most of the main floor (it’s not quite done yet), and my husband and his father have been working on our basement to finish getting everything drywalled so we can finally have a completely finished basement. It has been a long and slow process, but it is close to being finished and I am really looking forward to that!

As we have spent so much time looking at colours and designs and deciding what we can do, I can’t help but realize our bedroom is one of the only rooms in the house that hasn’t had any sort of update since we moved in eight years ago. We have never been completely happy with the wall colour or the quality of the builder’s paint that was used, so we didn’t put up any decoration or pictures, which makes the room kind of impersonal. The curtains we hung really don’t work, and since the room is right over the garage, it gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer, so I would love a ceiling fan (yes, I know they are not exactly in high demand these days).

The one thing we did for our bedroom and ourselves is buy a really nice comforter. It is a quilted corduroy blanket that has dark and earthy colours that we love and it’s a great fit for our personalities. When we are done with all of our other renovations, I would love to redo our bedroom and use that comforter as the inspiration for all of the design changes. We have a big bay window that I think would be gorgeous with a bench seat built in, and a dark corduroy cushion would be perfect. I want to replace the curtains with blinds and put in a unique ceiling fan, and of course change the wall colours from their current yellow to a warm and darker tone. I would also like to get some matching end tables and dressers, since ours are a collection of old and mismatched pieces.

I have so many projects I want to do in this house that I don’t know if we will get to changing our bedroom. Do you daydream about how you can renovate and redecorate your home? Is your personal space always the last one to get the attention?
