Choosing picture day clothes

•

School is starting again next week, and with the new school year comes new school pictures. Each year I debate on what the kids should wear for picture day. For Avery it is fairly easy, she loves to dress up in girly clothes and look pretty, so picture day is a good day for her. She puts together her frilliest outfit and shows off her girly side. But for the boys, it’s not so simple. Do I send them in a tee shirt because that is what they like and usually wear? I like this because the picture will show who they really are, but if we are giving them as gifts it may not be the best choice.

If I can get them to do it, it’s nice for the boys to dress up in a shirt and tie. My oldest son liked to put on a shirt and tie until he was about 10, and then he decided that wasn’t so cool anymore. I think my chances of getting either boys into a shirt and tie are fairly slim, so I will have to settle somewhere in the middle. I usually try to find a nice collared shirt, or I even negotiate to a tee shirt if it is a nice shirt that isn’t wrinkled or covered in silly jokes about selling sisters. My 9 year old has a new shirt that says “I’m pretty much one of the coolest people I know” that I know he’s going to want to wear. I think the shirt is funny, but not picture day funny.

What do your kids wear on picture day?

Oh my gosh, I wish we could dress our kids any way we wanted for picture day! Most of the schools here in Miami require uniforms. 🙁

Like Jenn my kids have to wear uniforms but they do have one picture day towards the end of the year when they can wear what they want. One year in elementary school my oldest son actually chose to wear black slacks, white button down shirt and a TIE….Yes he chose a tie! I was so impressed (he would never do that now LOL)

Whenever we take photos I try to match the younger kids. Finding clothing that the older children love can be hard though.

Jake’s school has a very strict dress code, almost a uniform, so he has to wear that. But the faces he makes are priceless.

I say let them be them. I loved to dress up for those pics but many of my friends didn’t. Reminds us of how far we’ve come. LOL!

I stick to colors that make my son’s eyes pop. Blues of any color, greens, and Red.

I LOVE the idea of dressing in something “usual” as it tends to reflect the child’s personality at that age, vs. something that I wanted him to wear.

Luckily, I don’t have to think about picture day, yet. I used to work in Kindergarten and it was such a task trying to keep the little ones clean on picture day.
