My new obsession: Coffee Milkshakes

•

If you have ever spent a full day with me, you may be surprised to learn that I used to be anti-coffee. No one drank it in my house when I was growing up so I didn’t have any really strong desire to try it. At 16 I had a sip of someone’s joe and I wasn’t impressed. It would take me nearly twenty years to give it another try.

While I was in the hospital after having my fourth child my husband went out and bought a coffee maker. He must have grown tired of buying his coffee from the local coffee shop. I came home from the hospital and found myself exhausted, and more than a little jealous of his morning pick me up. It was time to give coffee another try! I can’t say I enjoyed the taste right away, but the burst of energy was more than welcome for this tired Mom. I soon learned that my husband’s double-double is not my preference. I like milk, not cream, and one teaspoon of sugar is plenty. I also prefer a mild cup of coffee and always fresh. Now I enjoy the flavour and the caffeine, and I never miss my morning coffee, or my afternoon coffee! My demand for fresh coffee has just been made easier by my Hamilton Beach 5 Cup Brewer.

The 5 Cup Personal Brewer has a removable mesh filter inside for my coffee grounds. I just add water and grounds and press the on button! It allows me to make 3-5 cups of coffee fresh when I want them. I need no paper filters and it keeps coffee hot and fresh for an hour, which is more time than I need to finish a few cups of coffee. I love that it’s portable as well, so I can plug it in next to my computer and refill my cup while I work.

Last week I was visiting Albuquerque and discovered one of the greatest inventions of all time: the coffee milkshake. Apparently this is a well known treat for many people, but for me it was a new and delicious discovery that I couldn’t wait to get home and recreate. I have been told it can be made with coffee flavoured ice cream, but the coffee milkshake I enjoyed was made with real coffee and vanilla ice cream. It was divine and I will not insult my taste buds by tricking them with anything other than an authentic coffee milkshake.

There are a lot of great uses for the 5 cup personal brewer. My husband thinks it would be perfect for him to take to work so he can make fresh coffee on his break. He works on different job sites all of the time, so this would be a great choice for him to have with him. I think it would be perfect for long car rides, if you have an outlet available in your vehicle, like we do. I will definitely be taking it with me on camping trips. When would you use a 5 cup personal brewer?

I used to love my daily cup of strong black coffee. But after my pregnancy and a year of nursing with no coffee I have grown to love milky coffee. I just kicked my iced coffee habit though so I don’t think this was good for me to read 🙂 At least not good for my waistline!!!

Yummy! I love coffee but have never had it in a milkshake. That’d be great to try in the summer.

I never drank coffee until about 5 years ago. Always loved the smell but never liked the taste. Now I have to have my afternoon coffee. The coffee put sounds like a perfect amount of brew.

Cute coffee maker but I think my idea of a ‘cup’ is much bigger than standard. Think I’d get about 2 servings out of that lol!! Love the portability of it though!

I would use it when I have people over who really like their brewed coffee. I do indulge once in a while but not often. Like you, noone drank coffee in our home while I was growing up so I didn’t acquire a taste for it. My stomach will not tolerate much brewed coffee. Once in a while, when I think I need the caffeine, I will make a cup of instant. It usually does the trick. Your coffee milkshake sounds positively decadent.Enjoy!
