October 15th is the first annual International Cook with Your Kids Day, and Uncle Ben’s offers The Ben’s Beginners™ activities and recipes as a great place to get started. Through the digital hub, Canadian families can participate in activities that will help teach cooking skills to their children, and then use those skills to prepare a mouth-watering recipe. By uploading a photo afterward, using the #LookWhatWeMade hashtag, they’ll be entered for a chance to win one of three $10,000 RESPs.
The Ben’s Beginners™ Cooking Contest is part of an overall movement that the Uncle Ben’s Brand believes in to get more families cooking together, because cooking is a life skill as essential as reading and writing. My two youngest children helped me make the Meatballs and Rice recipe from the Uncle Ben’s website.
My daughter helped to make the rice and crack the egg into the meat. Neither child would put their hands into the raw meat, so that was all on Mommy, but once the meatballs were formed my son joined us in the kitchen. We strayed from the recipe a bit and used a canned tomato sauce to top our meatballs. Griffin did a great job pouring the sauce!
Everything turned out great, and both kids ate and enjoyed their meatballs and rice. Griffin even ate them as leftovers the next day!
To celebrate International Cook with your Kids Day, I am giving away an Uncle Ben’s prize pack valued at $150! The pack contains everything you will need to get cooking with the kids.
