New Waterpik® Water Flosser For Kids Provides Clinical Benefits of Traditional Waterpik® Water Flosser in a Model Uniquely Designed for Children

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (April 13, 2011) – Water Pik, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative personal healthcare products, has announced the launch of the new Waterpik® Water Flosser For Kids.

According to a recent study by the American Association of Pediatric Dentists, 42 percent of mothers in the U.S. agreed that their kids needed to improve their oral healthcare regimen and 20 percent of parents reported that their child had at least one cavity in the past year.1 Given that a high percentage of children don’t floss, parents are seeking easy to use, affordable oral care products for their kids.

The new Waterpik® Water Flosser For Kids is the newest tool to help parents ensure that their children are taking good care of their teeth. It features new Water Flosser technology and is clinically proven to be up to twice as effective as traditional floss.2 Recent studies show that it removes 99.9% of plaque from treated areas and is more than three times as effective as string floss for cleaning around braces.3

“Let’s face it, most people simply don’t like to floss, and unfortunately kids floss even less than adults,” says Jay McCulloch, Vice President of Marketing for Oral Care Products, at Water Pik, Inc. “Our new Kids model provides a more effective alternative to traditional floss, and because it’s fun and easy, kids will actually use it.”

The Water Flosser For Kids is uniquely designed to accommodate smaller hands – ideal for ages six to twelve. It includes two tips – one Classic Jet Tip and one Orthodontic Tip – as well as an extra safe, kid-proof electrical design, three pressure settings, and compact size for easy storage. The unit also comes with 20 removable cling decals in colorful designs that kids can use to customize their unit.

The Waterpik® Water Flosser For Kids is perfect for those who do not like to floss and who have braces – it is easy to use and only takes about a minute a day to start improving gum health.

MY THOUGHTS

I had a waterpik when I was growing up, and it always made dental hygiene just a little more fun. I love the idea of a waterpik made especially for children, and I was excited to try it. I like that the kids can decorate it with stickers, and Avery was very eager to do this herself. She chose only the girliest stickers, and surprisingly, the boys have not complained.

The size of this waterpik is nice. It’s not huge and fits on our small bathroom counter. It is easy to use and Kellen and Avery both understood it fairly quickly. Three year old Griffin still doesn’t get the concept and thinks it is great for shooting water around the washroom.

We don’t let him use it.

The only thing that I would like to see different on the Waterpik for kids, is additional sprayers so that each child has their own. They both want to use it, but there is one regular jet tip and the orthodontic tip, but since my kids don’t need the orthodontic tip, they both want the regular one. I can’t even share a drink with someone, so the idea of my kids using the same tip is unthinkable, so I have to disinfect it each time it is used. The waterpik I had as a child had interchangeable tips with a colour stripe so that everyone in the family had their own. This would be great for the kids’ unit too.

I love that the kids enjoy taking care of their teeth more when they use the waterpik, and I think it’s a great tool for keeping their teeth and gums healthy.

I didn’t even know what a waterpik was until this article. It seems like something kids might like. I haven’t started flossing my kids teeth consistently yet. They’re only 5 & 2. I should start flossing my 5 year old sons teeth more. He actually likes it, so that’s good. In reading up on caring for my kids teeth, this Mom’s Guide has been a great help. I enjoy it’s tip son helping keep their teeth healthy. I hope you find it helpful too.

This system is new to me but i’m sure it will be great to help the kids with their oral health care.
