One of the most obvious necessities for students going off to college is a printer. Hewlett Packard makes high quality products, so we were comfortable choosing an HP printer, and I thought wireless was the best choice. When I was told we were getting the Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One with HP ePrint I was confused. What is eprint? And why do we need it? I did what every smart parent does, and I asked my son. He said that he would be able to print things right from his iPhone with this printer, and he seemed pretty happy with that.
The printer arrived and we opened it up. It comes equipped with sample size ink cartridges, and we were provided with replacement cartridges as well. I did look up the cartridges, and they are comparable with most printer cartridges. An XL black ink cartridge costs about $25 and a colour one is around $40. I can’t say how long they last yet, but the specs say that they print 2-3 times more pages than the regular HP ink cartridges. The printer also arrived with some photo paper so we could try out the quality of picture printing.
So we could be sure that everything was working, we set it up at home before Eric left for school. It was easy to set up, althoug a little time consuming. It took about a half hour to get it set up, but most of that time was waiting for the software to do it’s thing. Eric printed a picture from his iPhone to the printer and the quality was amazing. I printed some documents that I needed done, and they printed quickly and looked great.
This printer even has apps! There are apps for coupons, maps, photographs and more. It will definitely be fun to use as well as useful! I know it is going to be a well used and necessary tool for Eric at college.
