Since my son went off to college, I have relied on facebook quite a bit to see what my son is doing. I get to see who his friends are, what fun things he’s doing, and even what his test scores are. Facebook is my reassurance that he’s okay when I haven’t heard from him in a couple of days. It’s nice to see I’m not the only one using facebook for this!

This seems a little sad to me. This is about “spying” and “snooping” and being “over protective” and “the only way to know what my kid is up to.” I wonder why it is not simply about remaining engaged as people? I wonder why these people don’t think of their late teens and up as adult humans?

Those are the crazy moms that I remember when my kids were growing up early on that were addicted to molding them into something. I had and still have a close relationship with all three of mine, when there cell is dead I facebook them and someone tells them some how to ‘call your mom’ 🙂 Someone tagged my daughter with a beer in her hand and I let her know, she was 19 at a weekend mud run with her boyfriend and a group of really great kids, she untagged herself 🙂

Looking at their facebook posts helps me know a little more about what’s going on in the lives of my adult children. They’ve friended me, so they know I can see what they post. I don’t think it can be considered spying. Like all of us, kids need to remember that if it’s private, it doesn’t belong on Facebook.
