The dreaded Mom ponytail and how to avoid it

•

Straightened hair

I have a confession. I’m a yoga pants and ponytail Mom. Everyone who knows me in real life is laughing right now, because seriously…that is the only way you ever see me, lol. I like to be comfortable. I hate having my hair in my face, and I have challenging hair so sticking it in a ponytail is the easiest way to deal with it. But I do admit, it may not be the most fashionable or attractive way to deal with it.

My hair is very fine and I have natural curl that gets frizzy. Since I haven’t known how to style it for most of my life, I have just done the ponytail thing…but now I’m starting to learn ways to deal with my hair. The right styling products can make all of the difference! I have tried just about every mousse, gel and stop frizz hair product you can think of. I find the ones that work really well are in a higher price bracket, but I guess that’s why! I have also tried curling irons, flat irons, crimpers (yes, in the eighties I used a crimper), rollers and special hairbrushes.

The thing that works best for me, is to put a styling product in my hair, dry it with a round brush and the hair dryer, and then use my flat iron. This takes a little more time than I like to spend on my hair (in other words…it takes longer than the 30 seconds required to put a hair elastic in) but the results are nice and it is what I do when I am doing more than dropping kids at school or going to the gym.

What do you do to have nice looking hair without spending hours working on it?

I have thick curly hair and wear pony tails on “off ” days (days I don’t wash my hair). I highly recommend Curl Keeper if you want to wear your natural curls and avoid the hassle of straightening. If you do want to straighten I also highly recommend picking up a hot air brush, way easier than using a hair dryer and brush separately. It also gives you a straight look but with tons of volume. If you do want the sleek look you can also finish up with a straight iron.

I’m SO a JammiePants and messy bun girl too! I only really wear my hair down right after my SIL hairdresser has cut it and I can get right out of the shower, rub in some curl enhancer, and leave it to dry on its own. I have no idea how to “do” hair (or makeup). I’m sure it drives my hubby bonkers haha.

I do the pony tail as a last resort, or if I am camping.

I put it up in a messy bun. I feel better about myself when I actually do it, though.

I have very fine hair that’s also naturally curly. I use my straightener almost daily or I feel like I have scrunched 90’s hair

You look so pretty! As for ponytails, I rarely wear my hair in ponytails. I have long hair, too, but I look horrible with my hair pulled back away from my face. It’s true.

Lol.. I’m a pony tail and yoga pant girl so I’m guessing I’ll be that way as a mommy too! Occasionally I like to flat iron or put hot rollers in but don’t like to do too much to my hair because it’s damaging.

My hair is pretty coarse and naturally curly, but only in the back so if I don’t take the time to do it, it’s up in a pony it goes. I wish I could get it to look cute in 0 time. Love your hair, it’s so thick and pretty!

I wear my hair up every once in awhile, too. However, I stopped using ponytail holders ages ago since they were causing breakage. I usually don my updo with a sassy barrette.

messy bun – my hair is naturally high maintenance – thick, long, wavy/curly … wearing it down is special occasion. I find it’s less difficult to keep long than to wear short – as I’d have to style it everday or it would take over my head.
