Having children from various age groups doesn’t mean that they don’t like to play with the same toys. Well, maybe Eric doesn’t because he’s twenty (or maybe he does but he wouldn’t want to let on that he still plays with toys), but Kellen, Avery and Griffin often enjoy playing with the same toys, and I love to watch them learn from one another.
Fisher Price sent us some pretty awesome toys this month, and all three of the kids were uber excited to get the boxes opened up and get playing! I made them enjoy one thing at a time, and we started with this castle. It’s obvious from the picture below who was most excited about this castle. Griffin was bursting at the seams with excitement and it still hasn’t worn off! He combines some of his favourite toys with the castle to make for some pretty interesting battles.
Kellen and Avery like the castle too. Kellen is my child who loves to learn. He is always researching and teaching us about the things he has learned. He is studying Medieval Life in school right now, and he is passionate about playing with the Fisher Price Castle in a historically accurate way. His siblings don’t care so much, so it doesn’t always work out in his favour, but he’s been having fun anyway. Avery would like a princess for the Castle, and had to come up with one on her own, making it the perfect toy for all of them!
The favourite toy with all of the kids was the Fisher-Price Servin’ Surprises Kitchen & Table. They all like to play role play type games, and cooking is a favourite…and so is serving. I like that they actually cooperate and play together, taking turns being the cook, the server and the customer (they only cook in a restaurant for some reason…I swear we do eat at home!). I can’t bear to show the messy room they are playing in, so here is a stock photo of the table.
It’s interesting to see how they all play differently with this as well. Griffin just likes to pile up as much play food on it as possible, and serve us a huge plate of all things imaginable, while the older kids serve us much like we would eat at home … main course followed by dessert. We have a cute Fisher Price ice cream set makes a great dessert option!

And you can keep in mind the different ways that your children can learn and play with each toy. Griffin received a fun Little People Wheelies Stand ’n Play Rampway. This is just the right size for him, and he loves watching the cars race down. The older children were interested in helping assemble it, but that’s where their interest ended. It is definitely intended for younger children.
