You can help send a child to camp this summer

I loved summer camp as a kid, and my oldest son enjoyed it too. It was a time for discovering independence and making new friends, and I really want all of my children to at least try it once. My two middle children had that chance this past summer. They went to Circle Square Ranch in Brantford, Ontario and they both came home with a lot of stories to share.

My son has a hard time with new situations and new people and it was a bit of a challenging experience for him. He doesn’t want to go to camp again, but he did come away from it with some positive experiences. He was so proud of himself for going ziplining. It is something I tried for the first time just a couple of months prior and I think he liked having that connection with me. He was also pleased to report that he learned to ride a horse, and never planned to do it again, lol.

Avery had a very different experience. She left camp in tears because she was going to miss her new friends. She was afraid to try ziplining, but she embraced horseback riding and showed off her new skills in the rodeo at the end of the week. She shared stories about camp fires and swimming and she reminds me frequently that she wants to go back again this year. I hope we can make that happen for her, because I know she really loved it.

My boys have gone to camp the last two years. Its so hard to send them off but its so good for them to get away, and learn to who they are away from my influence but still under a watchful eye.

My son has never gone to a sleep-away camp, but we may be letting him go to one this summer. I have fond memories of a sleep-away church camp when I was younger, and want my son to have a chance at that experience, too.

When I was ten, I went for a week to a sleep away camp and learned how to horseback riding. I love it so much. We also had daily activities like canoeing, swimming, and archery. It was a great week and made new friends.

I never got to go to summer camp but I did go on a week long school camping trip (years ago). I’ll never forget building a fire, on my own, and lighting it without a match …. yes, I rubbed two sticks together until I got a fire started!!

My children are still too young for long term summer camp but I always make sure to sign them up for a few fun extra curricular activities during their break from school.

I didn’t go to camp as a little one but when I was older I was a counselor at a camp. I loved it. It was so much fun and someday I look forward to sending mine when they are older.

My kids have done the school camp but never “away” or long term. I think it is a great experience.

Sadly I never went to summer camp. 🙁 My children went to town camp during the summer, but that was only for a few hours a day M-F. The only memory I have about their time in camp was when they were coming back from the Bronx Zoo and there was an accident on the bridge and they were stuck in traffic for hours. This was before they had cellphones so I had no idea where they were or when they would be home. The next day we got them cellphones.

We just do a local summer camp that the kids spend the day at 3 times a week.

I never went to camp as a kid, but all of my daughters did! They had a blast!
