It’s summer and I want the kids to get outside and enjoy the warm weather without sweltering in the heat, so we have been having a lot of fun in the sprinkler! Every afternoon I turn on the sprinkler and get them into their bathing suits to enjoy some water play. In this heat, I can’t bear the thought of turning on the oven, so while they play I light up the barbecue. I love a summer BBQ but I get tired of grilling up the same old things every day. Hot dogs and hamburgers are a hit with my kids, but they’re not something I want to be feeding them on a regular basis, so I needed a healthier alternative. Butterball has a turkey burger that really fits the bill. Not only is it gluten free, but it’s also a lean alternative. In the past I have tried turkey burgers that I found to be a bit dry and kind of bland, so I was a little wary of trying these turkey burgers.

I didn’t need to worry because I could see the difference as soon as I opened the box. The patties were thick and looked like meat, not thin and waxy looking like the turkey burgers I’ve tried in the past. I had a recipe in mind that wouldn’t work well if I added sauce to my turkey patties, so I put them on the grill without any added barbecue sauce and then I made the recipe that is featured below.

My bruschetta turkey burgers were delicious. They were juicy and full of flavour. I am glad I didn’t add barbecue sauce to them, because they were tasty enough without any more flavours added. Tomatoes are a favourite of mine and they made these burgers summer fresh and delicious. We enjoyed them while sitting out back under the shade of our gazebo. It was a perfect summer night!

How are you beating the heat this summer?
