When we decided to build the bathroom in the basement, I knew that I wanted to tile the floor. Truth be told, I wanted to tile the whole shower but that was really beyond my budget so I settled on a classy looking shower stall and tile on the floor. We chose the LILA FRENCH Shower Kit, and Naturi Lagos Grey tile. A tile floor can be really affordable and it looks high end, adding value to your home.
My plan was to take a workshop at Home Depot and learn how to tile a floor myself. If you are a regular reader of mine you will know that my husband fell off of a ladder and broke both wrists earlier this summer, leaving me to be his hands and with no time to learn a new skill. Thankfully he has family who were willing to step in and help us out with the floor, and Home Depot offers workshops all year long so I can still learn how to tile a floor. I have registered for a workshop at the end of October and I can’t wait to tell you about it afterwards!
Thankfully I was able to learn a little bit from my husband’s uncle who is a Contractor. He showed me how to lay out the tile on the floor before you start (and after the shower base was installed). He explained that he starts in the middle of the doorway and them arrange the rest of the tiles from there.

Once the tiles were all cut and laid out on the floor, he picked them back up and set them aside in the order he wanted to place them. He asked me to pick up Premium Plus Standard Thin-Set Mortar to install the floor, as well as some spacers and grey grout.

He decided to create a tile baseboard for us instead of the traditional wooden baseboard, and I’m so pleased with how it turned out.

Now that the floor is finished and the shower is installed, we are finishing the sanding of the walls and painting and then installing the toilet and pedestal sink. Check back later in the month to see the finished product!
