Our new washroom is in the home stretch #DIY

It’s amazing what a coat of paint can do. If you remember how our bathroom looked a few weeks ago, you will know that it was just drywalled. Since then we sanded, primed and painted. The paint we chose was Behr Premium Plus Interior Satin Enamel. It paints on smoothly and will stand up well in the washroom. You can see it in the photo below.

You can also see that our toilet has been successfully installed! It is the American Standard Mainstream Complete Toilet. It came with everything you need to install it, although we did have to purchase a second wax ring when the first one met tragic circumstances (it was accidentally squished). This toilet is compact enough for this small space and didn’t break the bank.

We picked up this pedestal sink at Home Depot a couple of years ago when it was on clearance. They don’t carry this exact model anymore but there are some really nice pedestal sinks and vanities available at Home Depot. If you like a bargain like we do, take a walk through Home Depot whenever you get a chance. They often have sale and clearance items available. This sink is actually not installed yet because I saw a deal on a vanity that I may want to pick up instead. You will have to wait for the reveal to see what we decide to go with!

Our shower head and faucet are also really affordable. We chose the Moen Adler in a chrome finish. The faucet on the sink was salvaged from another renovation in our home. One of the handiest purchases we made for the new washroom is a digital timer for the bathroom fan. With three washrooms in the house, I feel like I’m always turning off the washroom fans that have been left on. With this washroom being in the basement, I knew I wouldn’t hear the fan so I wanted to make sure it wasn’t left running. This is the perfect solution, and we will be installing them in the other washrooms as well.

Our washroom fan is a light/fan combination. It is called the NuTone Fan/Light and my husband installed it himself in a relatively short amount of time. We may add vanity lights in the future, but for now this is providing plenty of light to the room.

That fan timer is a wonderful thing, isn’t it? My husband has been hunting it down for a good price for months and we finally have one installed in each bathroom.

Can you come do ours next, pretty please?! We’ve been living in this house for over 2 years and only had our second bathroom for 2 months of that time. I need my 2nd bathroom!!

Yours looks awesome! I like the idea of the timed light switch. I need that in every room in my house!

I agree about having a timer on the fan is a great idea. After 10 years, hubby finally installed one in our bathroom and I love it! The model we chose has a 60 minute option which is great when I have a long bubble bath – tells me it’s time to get out lol!

A coat of paint can make a difference in the look of any room. Behr paint is a really good paint to use as it covers well and washes easily.
The Fan timer is a wonderful gadget. We have a bathroom downstairs and it used to keep me busy (and almost paranoid) trying to make sure the light and fan were turned off after use.
