Maintaining Good Health During the Holidays #ONatural

•

This holiday season was a little different than usual for our family. My husband underwent two surgical procedures just a couple of days before Christmas, so rather than have big family celebrations outside of the home we opted for a quiet celebration at home.

He was in pain and had a prescription to help manage it, but he didn’t like how it made him feel. Here are some of the natural methods we used to help him get through the pain after surgery:

  • Hold a pillow close to the incision point, particularly if you need to cough or sneeze
  • Drink plenty of water, and eat high fiber foods to keep all systems running smoothly
  • Get plenty of sleep. Turkey was the perfect meal for this, since it contains tryptophan. If you don’t want to make a whole turkey just for the tryptophan, you can take 5-HTP from Orange Naturals as well.
  • Use ice packs or hot pads to deal with swelling.
  • High doses of vitamin C can help relieve pain as well, so he was taking supplements as well as drinking orange juice.

My oldest son and his girlfriend came home for the week, and just having them here was a huge help too. My husband had help whenever he needed it and he could enjoy the holidays without stressing about what needed to get done around the house. Sometimes just having everyone you love around you is all of the healing power you need!
