She’s growing up!

•

This past Christmas I gave my daughter a couple of Monster High dolls, knowing that they were something she has always liked. She opened her presents, gave me a polite smile and set them under the tree where they remained until I took it down. I realized something when she gave me that smile. She’s not a little girl anymore.

Of course she will always be my little girl, but she’s eleven years old now and she’s growing less interested in dolls and stuffed animals. A few years ago we decorated her room in a lovely lavender and bought her a Cinderella bedding set. It is adorable, and very much for a little girl. She decided she was ready to upgrade, so we are in the process of moving out some doll houses and toys and making some more sophisticated choices.

She has chosen to put away her Cinderella comforter (but not get rid of it, because it is Cinderella after all), and replace it with this reversible Miramar comforter set.

While it is a little big for her twin bed, we chose a double size because we will also be upgrading her bed at some point in the near future. The set came with two pillow shams as well, and she is using one of them on her bed right now.

She likes that she can flip it over to change the look of her bed and her room whenever she wants, and the colours and patterns are perfect for a pre-teen girl. There were other sets at Maple Harbour that she liked as well. In fact, she had a very hard time deciding between the sets below and the one she chose.

I think the Miramar set was the perfect choice for her though, since she is looking to move away from the cute little girl room. However, the goldfinch set above is adorable and I would have been thrilled if she had chosen it too.

At what age did you or your children start to make more sophisticated choices?

My daughters started making more mature choices for their decor when they were about 12, if I’m remembering correctly! The youngest is 24 now, so it was a while ago!

My girl is 11, too, and definitely inching closer to changing up her room from the Princess/doll room of her childhood. These bedding sets are beautiful! 🙂

She chose a very nice set! I think 11/12 is a common age to start showing more grown up choices. Looks like Maple Harbor has some nice bedding.

I love the Miramar set too! My boys are still in their twin beds and still very much attached to their superhero bedding lol

My girls got a big girl bed overhaul earlier this year and I was amazed by how many lovely choices of bedding is out there for tweens.

That’s a good idea. Being able to switch the sides of the blanket to change things up makes sense.
